{"id":18102,"date":"2021-03-09T17:14:17","date_gmt":"2021-03-10T01:14:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/live-canadian-association-of-snowboard-instructors.pantheonsite.io\/casi-blog\/it-s-time-to-select-a-new-technical-team\/"},"modified":"2023-11-28T13:32:05","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T21:32:05","slug":"it-s-time-to-select-a-new-technical-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casi-acms.com\/casi-blog\/it-s-time-to-select-a-new-technical-team\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s Time To Select A New Technical Team!"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">CASI National Technical Team Selection Announcement<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"lede\">This document outlines the primary elements of the National Technical Team selection process, including; the application process and requirements, timelines, logistics, team structure and team member responsibilities \/ expectations.<\/p>\n<h3>Overview<\/h3>\n<p>The National Technical Team selection will be a virtual process, enabling CASI to select the nation\u2019s best technical ambassadors for the association. The outcome of this process will be a team that embodies the following attributes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inspirational snowboard instructors;<\/li>\n<li>Outstanding teachers and presenters;<\/li>\n<li>Excellent technical snowboarding minds;<\/li>\n<li>Professional ambassadors for snowboard teaching in Canada;<\/li>\n<li>Current CASI members, snowboard instructors and Evaluators in good standing.<\/li>\n<li>The selection process will be conducted in the following phases:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1: Application Phase<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants will submit an electronic application package (see below for package requirements)<\/li>\n<li>Only complete packages submitted on time will be accepted<\/li>\n<li>Application submission deadline:\u00a0Friday, January 14, 2022\u00a0(closes at 5pm PST)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2: Application Review Phase (January 14 &#8211; February 18, 2022)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Based on thorough review of all elements of each candidate\u2019s application packet, up to 10 applicants will be invited in advance to in-person selection interviews, held via ZOOM<\/li>\n<li>An official communication will be made on or before\u00a0February 18, 2022 indicating who has been invited to the selection interviews<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 2\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>3. Team Selections (February 18 &#8211; March 4, 2022).\u00a0Selections will be completed by a 5-person selection committee, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Director of Education &amp; Programs<\/li>\n<li>Executive Director \/ CEO<\/li>\n<li>A current member of the Board of Directors<\/li>\n<li>A previous Tech Team \/ TEC Committee member not seeking re-selection<\/li>\n<li>A selection team member at large<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The four (4) selected members of the National Technical Team will be announced on or before March 7, 2022.<\/p>\n<p><em>Note: The number of spots on the team may change between now and team selection time. CASI does not guarantee that all spots will be filled.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Organization &amp; Team Structure<\/h3>\n<p>The National Technical Team is chaired and overseen by the Director of Education &amp; Programs (DEP). The NTT may contain up to 10 members, including staff and a mix of selected team members and appointed team members.<\/p>\n<p>The National Technical Team is composed of the following structure:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Executive Director \/ CEO\u00a0(CASI staff position)<\/li>\n<li>Director of Education &amp; Programs (DEP)\u00a0(CASI staff position)<\/li>\n<li>National Technical Assistant\u00a0(CASI staff \/ contract position)<\/li>\n<li>Selected Team Member #1\u00a0(Volunteer Position)<\/li>\n<li>Selected Team Member #2\u00a0(Volunteer Position)<\/li>\n<li>Selected Team Member #3\u00a0(Volunteer Position)<\/li>\n<li>Selected Team Member #4\u00a0(Volunteer Position)<\/li>\n<li>Appointed Team Member #1\u00a0(CASI Staff: Regional Coordinator Representative)<\/li>\n<li>Appointed Team Member #2*\u00a0(Volunteer Position)<\/li>\n<li>Appointed Team Member #3*\u00a0(Volunteer Position)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>*Appointed Team Members are selected based on current project needs and skill sets.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Team Structure Restrictions<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>NTT members must remain active CASI members and Evaluators in good standing for the duration of their term.<\/li>\n<li>The team will include representation from Eastern and Western Canada, male and female members, as well as both official languages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 3\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<h3>Team Member Terms<\/h3>\n<p>Selected Team Members are in place for a minimum two (2) year term, and team members may serve a maximum of three (3) consecutive terms (six (6) years in total). Appointed Team Members are named and remain on the team on an as-needed basis, to be reviewed yearly.<\/p>\n<h3>Team Member Minimum Requirements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum Level 1 CASI Evaluator, in good standing;<\/li>\n<li>Actively involved in snowboard teaching in Canada or abroad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Team Member Minimum Commitment<\/h3>\n<p>CASI members selected to the NTT do so on a volunteer basis.\u00a0Team members are expected to contribute to the improvement of CASI programs yearly. The following minimum commitment can be expected:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attend a minimum of 6 virtual team meetings (approx.2 hours in duration) held via ZOOM.<\/li>\n<li>Attend a minimum of one (1) yearly in-person meeting of approx. 3 days.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in the delivery of yearly events, including: Evaluator training and mentoring, certification courses and member training events as required, to a minimum of 10 days per year (paid at normal Evaluator rate).<\/li>\n<li>Provide member communications in the form of technical articles,\u201ctips\u201dvideos, website \/ blog articles, or otherwise as required. Team members are required to provide a minimum of three (3) communications per year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The Technical Team &amp; Interski<\/h3>\n<p>Previously, the NTT formed the group that represented CASI at the Interski Congress, held every four years. Planning around Interski is on-going, and the current structure of the NTT may not include representation at the Interski events in the future. Selection of representatives for the next Interski congress will be made at a later date.<\/p>\n<h3>Application Process<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Application submission will be open starting on December 1, 2021 and close at 5pm PST on January 14, 2022.<\/li>\n<li>Application packages must be submitted electronically, via email. CASI will not accept late or incomplete applications. This applies to all candidates.<\/li>\n<li>All applicants will be notified by February 18, 2022 if they have been invited to a selection interview.<\/li>\n<li>Incumbent team members will be assessed through the same process as new candidates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Items to be submitted with each application package:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Intro Letter<\/strong> &#8211; (two pages maximum) must address the following points:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your home resort, or region<\/li>\n<li>Your teaching background and experience<\/li>\n<li>Instructor certification level(s) as well as Evaluator certification level(s)<\/li>\n<li>Number of years instructing<\/li>\n<li>Number of years as a CASI Evaluator<\/li>\n<li>Languages that you teach in<\/li>\n<li>Other qualifications<\/li>\n<li>What do you feel is the main strength of CASI as an association?<\/li>\n<li>What do you feel is the biggest area for improvement within CASI training\u00a0programs?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2. Resume<\/strong> (two pages maximum) indicating professional high points, experience,\u00a0relevant activities outside of snowboard teaching, special credentials, foreign\u00a0language capabilities, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Sample of a written technical snowboarding or teaching tip<\/strong> (maximum of\u00a0500 words) highlighting an application of a specific technique or technical concept. Tips should be in final quality, suitable for publishing to CASI membership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Sample Video \u2018Tech Tip\u2019<\/strong> highlighting an application of a specific technique or technical concept in video format (maximum 2 minutes in length).<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Riding Demonstration Videos<\/strong> displaying performance of the following tasks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Intermediate Sliding Turns (forward &amp; switch) on groomed, advanced\u00a0terrain (black diamond). Minimum 10 turns, shot from below.<\/li>\n<li>Expert Short Radius Turns on groomed advanced terrain (black\u00a0diamond). Minimum 15 turns, shot from below.<\/li>\n<li>A high performance run of your choice, in terrain that you choose (i.e.:\u00a0park, carving, powder, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>Photos &#8211; one riding photo and one head shot (with goggles off, please!).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 4\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><em><strong>Submitting Videos: Videos should be submitted via web link only (i.e.: Dropbox, Google Drive, YouTube, Vimeo).
